And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. Matthew 24:22
The church shouldn’t doubt that at one moment or another our Lord will shorten the days of His coming. No matter how peaceful or ugly everything looks like, those words will come to pass. Why?
For two reasons the Lord shortens the days, both concerning the love He has for His people…
The Coming Days
Prior to His speaking of shortening the days, Jesus said, “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be” (vs. 21). We’re talking about sorrow, hatred, darkness, deception, desolation and more. But because it’s going to be that bad, He will cut the days short.
Thank you, Lord, for His mercy! That though such a horrible time will come over the whole world, we know our King is making His way to return. In this we’ll find hope and peace – our Savior will be back for us.
Forever Let Us Be
The second reason He’ll shorten the days is because the Lord is lovesick for His church; He longs to be with His bride.
I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. John 17:24
A few years ago I was taken to the Third Heaven and told these words by God, “I am shortening the days of My coming because I want you all back to be with Me.” At the time, I couldn’t find words to describe the love and passion that the Lord bore while He communicated this message. I still can’t find the words. However, the message is clear. He will shorten the days because He wants His people to be with Him… He loves us.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:3
